I said burning the house wouldn\u2019t fix anything.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cWhat did she do?\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cShe demanded the box.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cWhat was in it that she wanted?\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cMoney.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cHow much?\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cAlmost ninety thousand dollars.\u201d<br \/>\nI stared at him.<br \/>\n\u201cWhere did ninety thousand dollars come from?\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cCash from the rentals. Some of the buyer\u2019s deposit. Money she didn\u2019t report in the company accounts.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cShe hid ninety thousand dollars beneath my floor?\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cShe was saving it in case everything collapsed.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cAnd you went there to take it.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cI wanted to return it.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cNo. You wanted to hide it before the police found it.\u201d<br \/>\nHis silence answered me.<br \/>\n\u201cWhat happened after you refused to give her the box?\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cShe hit me with the metal bar.\u201d<br \/>\nMy eyes moved to the bandage on his head.<br \/>\n\u201cWhen I woke up, the room was filling with smoke.
