The ink and paper will pass a quick inspection.\u201d<br \/>\nI looked at the handwritten warning again.<br \/>\nONE OF THESE WOMEN WILL KILL ME.<br \/>\n\u201cWhat is on the final page that she wants so badly?\u201d<br \/>\nDaniel held it beneath a forensic light.<br \/>\nA series of faint numbers appeared between my father\u2019s handwritten lines.<br \/>\n\u201cThey were written in disappearing ink,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nLena photographed the sequence and entered it into her computer.<br \/>\n\u201cIt is an access key,\u201d she said. \u201cBut not for the family trust. It belongs to Northstar\u2019s original patent archive.\u201d<br \/>\nEleanor had helped create Northstar\u2019s first diagnostic system. If my father had erased her from the company\u2019s history, that archive might contain proof that she was a co-founder.<br \/>\n\u201cShe wants her ownership back,\u201d I said.<br \/>\n\u201cThen why take Grace?\u201d Daniel asked.<br \/>\n\u201cBecause my daughter is her leverage.\u201d<br \/>\nWe replaced the final page and inserted Lena\u2019s tracker beneath the envelope seal. I agreed to wear a second microphone, but the agents would remain three miles from the airfield until I activated an emergency signal.<br \/>\nBefore leaving, I entered the nursery and stood beside my son.<br \/>\nI touched his cheek gently.<br \/>\n\u201cI am bringing your sister home.\u201d<br \/>\nThe private airfield appeared deserted when I arrived. You control his shares. Transfer them, and I will return Grace.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cYou are using a child to negotiate for a company.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cI protected that child from Evelyn when no one else knew she existed.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cYou also kept her from me.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cYou were sleeping beside Grant. Giving her to you would have been giving her to him.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cGrant is in custody now.
